Our theme for Season 5 for the Empowered By Design Podcast is “Love with Confidence”.

After working as a registered dietician in various professional settings, Cat started her own business a little over one year ago! She helps clients to explore their behaviors, habits, and patterns to make important mindset shifts that can enhance self-confidence and self-love.

“Change your mindset before you change your food”. – Cat Grimes, Registered Dietitian

Invitation to take an energy inventory, noting reactions emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Give yourself time, space, and grace to process your reactions.

Cat offers the invitation to reflect: What is the first diet you have ever done? How long have you been dieting? She uses this activity with her clients to help them identify realistic and achievable health goals. Cat encourages her clients to explore and identify the motivation behind their goals and helps them feel confident in the bodies they are in right now.

Psychological research indicates that emotions, thoughts, and beliefs can be passed from one generation to the next.  We discuss the unhealthy implications of the intergenerational effects of dieting and emphasis on body size, shape, and weight.  We share personal stories from our own experiences with an encouragement for compassion for the generations that came before us.

*General guideline of encouragement* Don’t make comments about people’s bodies! Even if you think you are giving someone a compliment, our words can be interpreted in various ways, that depend on many different factors, and might not actually be healthy or helpful.  

Things you can do right now to increase healthy body image, self-love, and to feel truly confident:

🀍 Commit to increasing your self-awareness (do the inner work!)

🀍 Change your mindset from focus on “a quick fix” and work towards adopting sustainable lifestyle changes. Cat advises that if you can’t envision yourself engaging in a certain behavior or habit for more than one month, then it is not realistically sustainable for your lifestyle.

🀍 Identify your values, mission, and vision. 

🀍 Envision your ideal day and the ideal version of yourself and write it out in detail!!

🀍 Audit yourself! - Track your activities (down to the minute!) throughout one day to take inventory and see how you spend your time, resources, money, and energy.

🀍 Align your energy and behaviors with your Core Values and your Vision!

🀍 Don’t forget to Evaluate and Celebrate your successes! Pay attention to what is working well for you and use the positive energy to feel proud of yourself and also to motivate you to maintain your energy and inspire you to keep growing!

🀍 Recognize Generational Resilience - You have it in you right now. You do not need to wait for anything to happen; tune in and recognize it right now to help you feel balance, joyful, and connected.

🀍 Challenge yourself to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable in the spirit of adopting a growth mindset.

🀍 Build community and connection with others who share similar values, mission, and vision.
