50! Celebrating Dreams Come True in 2022, Ep.50

We are celebrating so much today - my new guitar and my guitar lessons with the ChordBuddy Program that is already helping me learn to play the guitar!! It is the 50th episode of the Empowered By Design Podcast!!  And we are celebrating our successes, accomplishments and good times of 2021 as we look forward to making our dreams come true in 2022!! In this episode, we walk through the Dream, Design, Deliver Signature Formula - The Dream, Design, Deliver signature formula is a fluid process that invites you to envision your desires and welcome the delivery of your dreams.  I outline the components of each phase, using my goal of learning to play the guitar in 2022, that you can use to accomplish your own goal and make your dreams come true in 2022!

A few weeks ago, I was visiting with my Gigi and Pappy, eating pizza, drinking wine, and talking, REALLY talking.  Pappy and Gigi recently sold their final litter of pigs from the farm, and are entering into a brand new chapter of life.  They have both worked, whether on farms or in various jobs, for over 70 years!  For them, work is life.  Life is work.  They really haven’t known any other way.  And, so it’s a big change.  Sad, scary, and promising all at the same time.

We heard Pappy reminisce about his younger years, playing guitar and riding the bulls in the rodeo.   And we talked about  - what happens next?  Do we sell the farm?  Where will we go? So many memories, so many wonders, so much that is uncertain.  And their love for each other is certain.  They are in it together.  Pappy and Gigi have shared their ups and downs, as so many couples can say, for certain.

They have a home, full of memories, possessions, and treasures. On that night, during our visit, Pappy asked, “Do you know anyone who plays the guitar? I have 5 guitars to pass along”.  

“I want to play the guitar so bad!!”, I answered.  And then I turned to both of my kids and asked, “do either of you want to play guitar?” (This is not the first time I have asked them this question, so the *eye roll* “No, mom, I don’t” responses were not surprising to me.  Just disappointing.)

And that was that!  I have dreamed of playing an instrument since I was a little girl.  And, I’ve attempted.  I took viola lessons, played the clarinet in 4th grade, and learned to play the piano (twice!).  But, I never stuck with any of those instruments.  And, I’m upset with myself.  I would LOVE to play an instrument.  I love music, I love singing, I love gathering with others to sing and dance.

I have dreamt of playing the guitar previously.  It just never went further than a dream, an idea.  I didn’t put it on my vision board, I didn’t actively take steps towards my dream.  Until after that night with Gigi and Pappy.  I started talking about my dream of playing the guitar!  I started asking my friends and family if they knew of anyone who offers guitar lessons.  I talked about my dream!

And, on Christmas morning, I received the gift that propelled me towards my dream (and now my realistic goal for 2022) of learning to play the guitar!!!  After our dinner with Gigi and Pappy, my husband went to work on making my dream come true!!  

I received one of Pappy’s guitars on Christmas morning and it was like a piece of my soul, that I did not know was missing, had come home.  I’m calling her Stella Rain, and she is beautiful!  It means so much to my heart that I will cherish (and make music with!) this guitar that was my Pappy’s.

The second part of my gift, my lovely surprise, was the ChordBuddy.  Chad, my husband, watched the episode of Shark Tank where Travis introduced the Sharks to his product almost 10 years ago!  And when I started talking about my dream to play guitar, Chad remembered that episode!  Later, when I asked Chad to tell me every detail of his planning my Christmas surprise, he said, “I just remembered seeing it on Shark Tank and thought it was so cool.”

ChordBuddy https://www.chordbuddy.com/  is a program designed to help us learn the guitar with self-guided lessons and support from the creator of this product, Travis!  He originally designed and created it to teach his 8-year old daughter to play guitar.  The ChordBuddy program comes with a tuner, a step by step lesson book, and a second book of songs to play.  It is a progressive lesson program that allows you to play songs on the very first day!  And, over the course of time, you remove pieces of the ChordBuddy to play the chords independently!!

I am so excited to share my journey with you.  (And, I’m also nervous!!) I have tried (and failed) before when I have attempted to play an instrument.  I am believing that this time it will work!  My goal is to play the guitar (all by myself!) by Summer 2022 while sitting in the back yard with my loves, around our fire pit, and singing together while I strum.  (My dream is to someday play Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton! And maybe meet him?!!  Hey, it’s a dream!!)

My goal is to post at least once per week about my guitar-lesson journey.  One tiny thing - Stella’s strings have been quiet for a bunch of years, so they will need some TLC in the future.  If and when you tune in to any of the videos that I post, please remember to give us grace!! 💜💜

Dream: Reflect, Attend, Envision

Attend to your dreams, your vision, your long and short term goals?

Reflect on your accomplishments, successes. What has gone well for you? 

Attend to your strengths, passions, inspiration.  

Reflect on potential hurdles and how you might decrease them.

Envision those moments and experiences that have brought you joy, fulfillment.

Design:  Create, Plan, Envision

Quiet your mind, calm your body and get in touch with your dreams and desires.  Envision and welcome sensory and intuitive experiences that tap into your creative flow.

Create goals based on your vision.  Be intentional with planning the steps to achieve your goals. Decide what resources you have already and what resources you need. 

Make your goals SMARTS - specific, measurable, achievable, realistic/reasonable, time-oriented, and self-directed

Deliver - Align, Evaluate, Celebrate

Deliver:  Align yourself with your vision - body, mind, heart, soul, and spirit. Be intentional in choosing actions, relationships, experiences that flow with your specific, short term goals and with your long-term vision.

Envision yourself having achieved that which you desire- past, present, future. Evaluate and Celebrate!! Check in with yourself regularly.  Redesign your goals as needed and continue to engage in the fluid process.
